Creating your dream space one project at a time
I’m not going to lie. Turning 40 was hard for me. I almost still can’t believe it happened to me. It’s a cruel little trick that your brain plays on you, it thinking you’re pretty much still 28 but your body can’t “hop up” off the floor. Or you injure yourself while sleeping.
“Your 40’s will be your best years,” they say. Yeah, I’d prefer to stay in the years before I got chin hair and gravity took hold of my knee caps, but thanks tho. Alas, there is nothing to do but put Botox in the budget and eat cake. Maybe roll around in it a little like a baby. Because you can do whatever you want when you’re 40.
I planned and executed my 40th birthday party myself because I’m a psycho perfectionist control freak who needs every detail 100%. Plus I’m never NOT on a budget, so I have to make my money stretch to downright painful proportions. If you really want to enjoy your own birthday party though, and you are not a psycho perfectionist control freak, I would suggest that you show this page to your mom/sister/bestie/hubs so that THEY can take this list and do all the sweaty exhausting work for you, while you get a manicure and sip champagne.
If you are the one who’s planning a party for your mom/sister/bestie/hubs, than look no further than right here! I have shared all my best party finds for you to copy and create your own epic event without having to do all the painstaking research. Click the image to go directly to the product page on Amazon.

Now normally when I have a party I spend days planning, cooking, and preparing all the food myself (psycho perfectionist control freak, remember?). BUT since I had sooo much work to do to plan, clean, decorate, set up, pick up, etc., I decided to buy all the food for this one. It turned out to be an excellent idea because without doing this I would have missed my own party on account of being institutionalized. My “caterers” (after price checking a few and almost having a heart attack at the investment) were Sam’s Club (sandwich platters, fruit and cheese platters, veggie platters, meatballs, hummus, dips, cupcakes, cookies), Publix (pinwheel platters & fried chicken platters), BJ’s (sub’s, wings, shrimp cocktail) and of course a small privately owned bakery for the cake, and Total Wine for the fun stuff.
The food was good and there was a lot of it. Most importantly, it fit my budget and kept me from having a nervous breakdown. DecorSauce Pro tip: Easily elevate your grocery store catering by tying the sandwiches with parchment and decorative twine, and styling everything on beautiful platters and cake stands instead of the plastic containers that came with it. Trust me, NO ONE will notice that it came from Sam’s Club if you make it look pretty.
My party was a huge success! We danced, we sang, we imbibed. Please leave me a comment if you use any of my ideas for your own event, I’d love to hear about it!
With Thanksgiving right around the corner and Covid still looming over us, many of us are wondering what we can do to still make this
